It was gathered that Chief Emmanuel had paid her bride last year after his wife of more than 40 years, Lady Eudora, with whom he had three sons and five daughters, died on 28 August 2011, aged 63. According to a family source, "he was distraught when his wife died and wanted to marry her immediately but was convinced by his kinsmen to wait for a while". Though his children are not in support of the marriage, they have to go along with it as they have been warned by their father to either accept it and co-operate or be cut off, a source revealed. With the traditional wedding out of the way, the church wedding will hold on September 21st, 2013 and they will be wedded by Rt Rev. Emmanuel Maduwuike, Bishop of Ikeduru Diocese of Anglican Communion at the Bishop’s chapel by 10am.

Eid-el-Kabir is October 15

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, on Sunday announced Tuesday Oct. 15 as Eid-el-Kabir. A statement issued in Sokoto by Prof. Sambo Wali, the Chairman of Sokoto Sultanate Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, said this followed the sighting of the crescent from across the country on Saturday. “This is sequel to the declaration of Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, as the first day of Zul-Hijja, 1434 AH, by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III. “The sultanate advisory committee on religious affairs at its meeting on Saturday, Oct. 5, received reports from various moon sighting committees across the country confirming the sighting of the new Moon of Zul-Hijja,1434 AH, on Saturday, which was the 29th day of ZulKi’ida,1434 AH,’’ the statement said. About a week after President Jonathan sacked nine ministers, he has again sacked two more people. In a statement signed by his Special Adviser (Media & Publicity) Mr Reuben Abati, Pres. Jonathan announced the sack of two special advisers - Mrs. Joy Emordi, the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters and Dr. Tunji Olagunju, the Special Adviser to the president on the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) The statement said the sack is with immediate effect.

Bomb Scare in Imo as Okorocha, Aides Scamper for Safety

Hell was let loose yesterday at the Ahajioku Convention Centre in Owerri, the Imo State capital, when security aides  to Governor Rochas Okorocha, suddenly whisked the governor away from the centre following a bomb scare. An eyewitness told Saturday Mirror that, the governor who was holding a meeting with some political stakeholders in the state, was interrupted by his security aides, who broke protocol to alert him of imminent danger. The source, said that the attitude of the security operatives, which provoked fear among the audience resulted to a stampede, which left several people injured as they scampered to safety. Ronaldo, one of the world's highest-paid athletes handled the incident calmly during a match in Miami in August, even chatting with the 19-year-old fan, and telling security officials to take it easy on him before he was carted away. Jonathan Promises Steady Power Supply By March Ending

President Goodluck Jonathan has promised Nigerians steady power supply by the end of the first quarter of next year, citing government’s huge investment in power generation as the basis of his promise. Giving the assurance, yesterday, in Ajaokuta where he commissioned the National Integrated Power Project, NIPP, 434 Megawatts Geregu II Power Station in Ajaokuta, Kogi State, Jonathan noted that no nation can be industrialised without steady power supply, adding that his administration remained fully committed to power sector development.
