How to Deactivate/Unsubscribe from DND (Do Not Disturb) SMS Delivery Issues
Do Not Disturb or DND for short is a mobile service setting that keeps your phone from receiving unsolicited messages in the form of SMS. The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) introduced this to protect mobile phone subscribers from receiving unsolicited messages from the mobile network providers and from other number code unsolicited messages that subscribers receive from anonymous sources.
However activating the DND also affects important messages like job interviews and the likes, important messages from organizations you belong, and invitations from friends when they use a Bulk SMS service. Because the number of recipients is too many and in order to customize the messages so that receivers know exactly who the sender is, as well as for economic reasons (Bulk messages are cheaper), people and organizations often use Bulk SMS to disseminate important information.
If your number is among the recipients but you have DND active, you will never receive such SMS. That is one of the reasons somebody can be at home watching TV on a Saturday they were supposed to be writing a job test or attending an interview. For instance, in the 2016 Npower recruitment, some of the selected applicants did not know they were selected until after months when they checked their email. They couldn’t attend to screening and so they were automatically disqualified. It is also happening to some people now during this device collection. They just don’t receive SMS.
There’s no way to know if you have an active DND setting on your phone. It is possible that one of those days you got a text message, “If you want to opt out of UNSOLICITED MESSAGES, send ABC to 123” and you quickly did that, well that was it. You may have forgotten.
Anyway, the good news is that you can deactivate/or unsubscribe from DND the following is how to do that for each every network in Nigeria.
FOR MTN
Text “Allow” to “2442”.
FOR GLO
Text “CANCEL” to “2442”.
FOR AIRTEL
Text “ALLOW” TO “2442”.
FOR ETISALAT
Text “START” to “2442”.
Then remove your SIM card after sending the code and insert it back.
