How to Stand Out and Be the Best Always
Have you wondered why only a few people succeed in life, while the majority become their fans? Have you wondered why thousands of students would be admitted to a university but only a few will make the best results? Because they were smarter, right? Ok, how about NYSC? There’s certainly no academic work there, so why is it that of the many that go for national service, only a few receive presidential awards? Have you bothered to ask yourself? Or you simply assume that they were lucky? Well, it is neither luck no smartness. I wasn’t one of the best students in my school, neither did I receive the presidential award after NYSC.
Actually, I used to also think that those guys were smarter than I was, or were luckier. But ever since I read about the Pareto principle, my thinking has changed and I know better how to be among the best. It’s called the 80/20 rule.
Actually, I used to also think that those guys were smarter than I was, or were luckier. But ever since I read about the Pareto principle, my thinking has changed and I know better how to be among the best. It’s called the 80/20 rule.
Also known as the Pareto principle, the 80/20 rule states that 80% of peas in a pea garden are produced by only 20% of the peapods in the garden. In business and work, 80% of results come from 20% of efforts put in business or work. This principle is applicable to you also. If you would evaluate yourself properly, you will also find out that 80% of the results you have in life have come from only 20% of the efforts you put in life.
Look back yourself, really try to remember. How many financial, business or career seminars/training have you attended in the past years? Really just pause now and try to remember. And how many of the knowledge you gained in those seminars/workshops have you put to use? Probably none! Look, it’s not peculiar to you; up to 80% of the people in those training with you also did nothing beyond that seminar/training room. If you took action with that knowledge, then, it means you are one of just 20% of the people who put that knowledge to use, and its’ such a good sign.
Another illustration: how many of the things you learned in school do you apply today to generate your results? If you are right with yourself, you would see that only about 20% of them contribute to your current result.
Now, why am I taking a whole space on this? Because the 80/20 rule is at work even as you are reading this post. As a matter of fact, even in this article; only 20% or even less of the people who get to read this article and my blog posts will take action on the ideas I keep unleashing here, and those will be responsible for 80% of the career and financial successes that will be recorded as a result of my write-ups here. The reason I share this is that I want you to be among the 20% of people that make 80% success possible.
Bear in mind that this article is free to air, an available to as many people as possible. It is possible that thousands of people will come across this post, and chances are that a reasonable percentage of these will already be doing something about it. There’s always a tendency to attach little value to things like this because they come at no cost. But I appeal to you, as regards this report; strive and do the opposite, take real action. This is how the best people become the best and this is your chance!!
1. For every task you have to accomplish in life, 20% of the activities that need to be done to get that task completed is responsible 80% of the results you will get. The best people try to identify the activities that constitute this 20% and prioritize them.
2. Since 20% of the activities of your task is responsible for 80% of results, it implies that majority (80%) of activities yield as little as 20% results. So what do the best people do? They focus 80% of their efforts on the 20% activities. They do them first and make sure that they are completed before they start to do other things.
Take the NYSC scheme as an example; there are lots of activities, from orientation camp to PPA, to CDS meetings, religious and social groups, personal CDS, boyfriend and girlfriend, private practices, monthly clearance, etc. only one of this has 80% priority in choosing who wins the state awards and who receives the presidential awards; personal CDS. It doesn’t matter how frequent you were with CDS meetings, monthly clearance, PPA, etc. if you didn’t do a personal CDS project, you stand NO CHANCE at all receiving a State or Presidential award.
For the N-power programme, I have written a whole e-book on the opportunities therein, with surefire strategies for any volunteer who cares to read. The sole aim is t0 help as much people as possible achieve career and financial stability. So I enjoin you, please STOP giving excuses and START taking action today on this rule. The one thing you must know is, whether or not you know about this principle, is irrelevant. It is operational in your everyday life. So the best thing to do is now that you know, apply this knowledge in everything you do, and see yourself rise to the top 20%.
For the N-power guys, you know the programme is meant to last for two years without any guarantees of extension or job. So the big question you must ask yourself is; two years from now, will I be among the many people who would still be seeking employment, or will I be among the few who by share hard work, vision and commitment, would maximize the opportunities provided by this scheme and walk themselves out of the world of career backwardness and financial bankruptcy, into a world of career satisfaction and financial stability, if not abundance?
